Slain Sohagi Jahan Tonu of Commilla Victoria College is now a symbol of women insecurity in Bangladesh. Not every hour , but every day Tonus are raped, killed or face sexual violence in Bangladesh. State cannot secure them, law cannot punish the criminals, police cannot nab the culprits. So, self help or self security is the best help for security for the woman.
`Pritilata Brigade ‘ a woman self security group of Bangladesh has been started a self security training program at Dhaka University from Friday(08.04.16). They started this training program at `Razu Vaskorjo ‘ with the help of Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation . At least 17 women are participating the training and every Friday the will take this self security training to save them from the unscheduled, unwanted mishap.
Taekwondo is the art of self defense that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years.A Taekwondo trainee typically wears a uniform, often white but sometimes black (or other colors), with a belt tied around the waist.
Now it is popular in Bangladesh too.
Lucy Akhter The president of `Pritilata Brigade ‘ said,` State should give security of the woman, but they failed. Not only Tonu , everyday girls and women are raped or are sexually harassed in the different parts of the country. We cannot see this helplessly. So, we came forward to ensure our security by ourselves.’
The training session is going on in open space before mass people. It has an importance. Because, open air self security training will make exposure and common people will know the preparation , at the same time women will be interested to take part the Taekwondo .
Tonu , student of Comilla Victoria College was murdered April 20 in the cantonment area . Till now no suspect is arrested.
