Motiur Rahman Nizami, Ameer( chief) of Jammat E Islami , the largest Islamist party in Bangladesh will not seek mercy to avoid death sentence, Home minister Asaduzza Khan Kaml said this afternoon at his secretariat office. He also added,`’Jail authorities are now ready to hang Nizami, wait and see what is going to happen.’
Jail authorities also confirm on Tuesday, that they have taken all preparation to hang Nizami.
Nizami’s Jamaat party website also says their chief is not seeking mercy.
On Sunday night, Nizami was brought from Gazipur’s Kashimpur Jail to Dhaka Central Jail, where four war criminals have been hanged since the war crimes trials began. The jail authorities read out the review verdict to Nizami at Monday night.
The Tribunal on Oct 29, 2014 sentenced Nizami to death for atrocities committed as commander of Al-Badr, a vigilante militia that assisted the Pakistan army during the War.
Apex court of Bangladesh on Thursday had upheld the death sentence against Nizami rejecting the review petition. The same court earlier rejected the appeal plea too.
