After the hanging of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer (party chairman) Motiur Rahman Nizami, the discussion is mounting up all around Bangladesh what Jamaat will do. Are they going to alter party name? Who will take over the next party leadership?
Top four leaders of Jamaat including Ameer and secretary general had been hanged on charge of crime against humanity during the independence war of Bangladesh in 1971. Moreover party registration had been cancelled and other top five leaders are behind the bar for the same charge- crime against humanity.
Political expert professor Dr. Tareq Samsur Raman says, “ I think new blood of Jamaat, post 71 generation will take the leadership and they will not bear the responsibility of misdeeds of their seniors in 1971”.
He asserts, “ Jamat should have to change the name to take part in the next national election, because they have not their party registration. They also lost their symbol. If they want to participate in the next national election that may be a party of Jamaat men, but not Jamaat.”
Dr. Santanu Mazumder, another political analyst says, “It’s difficult for Jamaat to come back again unless they get their foreign friends’ help and donation.”
But Jamaat wipes out all assumption and analysis. Tasnim Alam, Central Publicity Department’s Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami, in a written statement on Thursday said, “No question is arisen at all to altering the name of Jamaat-e-Islami or emerging with any new name.”
“The election for the post of Ameer-e-Jamaat (Party President) will be held on time according to the party constitution and later the newly elected Ameer will appoint Secretary General” he said.
Jamaat Publicity Department’s chief claimed, “ Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is a systematic party, purely believes in democratic trend of politics. This party has been functioning according to its party constitution. At present the party is running under the leadership of its Acting Ameer Maqbul Ahmed and Acting Secretary General Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.”
